Task 7.1: SAFE Framework (v1.1)

What This Task Is

You answer a question about a social or political issue. You must choose ONE side (Yes or No) immediately and support it with logical reasons. You have 30 seconds to prepare and 90 seconds to speak. Be assertive and firm — this is not Task 1 where you're warm and supportive.

The SAFE Framework

Letter Step What to say
S Stance State your opinion firmly + rephrase the question
A Argue Reason 1 with "since" (cause & effect)
F Fortify Reason 2 with "even though" (address the opposition)
E End Confident conclusion

Your Full Script (Memorize This)

5 blanks to fill — everything else is memorized

S — Stance:

"Yes, I firmly believe that [rephrase the question]. I feel strongly about this, and I'd like to share my reasons."

A — Argue (Reason 1 — "since"):

"First and foremost, since [cause], it will [effect]. Therefore, this is something we should absolutely take seriously."

F — Fortify (Reason 2 — "even though"):

"Moreover, even though some people might argue that [opposite view], I still think that the benefits clearly outweigh the drawbacks. In fact, studies have shown that [one result related to the topic]."

E — End (100% memorized):

"Consequently, for these reasons, I am convinced that this is the right path forward."

Timing Map

Time Section What to say
0–10s S — Stance "Yes, I firmly believe that..."
10–40s A — Argue "First and foremost, since..."
40–75s F — Fortify "Moreover, even though..." + "In fact..."
75–90s E — End Memorized conclusion

Your 30-Second Prep

Write down 3 things on your notepad:

1. rephrase the question (always say Yes)
2. since [cause] → [effect]
3. even though [opposite] → studies have shown [result]

Tone: Task 7 vs Task 1

Task 7 is assertive, NOT warm

Task 1 (CARE) Task 7 (SAFE)
Tone Warm, supportive Firm, confident
You're talking to A friend The examiner
Key phrases "my recommendation," "if I were in your shoes" "I firmly believe," "I am convinced"
Don't say "I firmly believe" "I heard about your situation"

Always Say Yes

Rephrase the question so you can always agree

You can almost always rephrase the question to say "Yes." For example, if the prompt asks "Should homework be banned?" and you disagree, say: "Yes, I firmly believe that keeping homework is important for students." This way you only memorize one opening.

Cheat Sheet: Filling the Blanks

Stance — Rephrase the Question

Prompt Rephrase
"Should students grade their teachers?" "allowing students to evaluate their teachers is a great idea"
"Should employees work from home?" "allowing employees to work from home is a positive development"
"Should fast food ads be banned?" "the government should ban fast food advertising"
"Should social media be banned for kids?" "social media should be banned for children under 16"

Reason 1 — "Since" Formulas

If the prompt is about banning/restricting something:

"First and foremost, since [who] are exposed to [the thing] every day, it will protect them from [harm]."

If the prompt is about allowing/supporting something:

"First and foremost, since [who] are directly affected by this, it will improve their [life/experience/health/well-being]."

Universal "since" options (pick the one that fits):

When topic is about... Since... It will...
Education since students spend most of their time in school it will improve the learning experience
Health since health affects every aspect of our lives it will lead to a healthier community
Technology/Social media since technology is part of our daily routine it will make life more convenient
Environment since we all share the same planet it will protect future generations
Work since employees spend most of their day at work it will improve overall well-being
Children/Youth since children are exposed to this every day it will protect them from potential harm

"Therefore" is always the same:

"Therefore, this is something we should absolutely take seriously."

Reason 2 — "Even Though" + "In Fact"

Step 1 — Pick a universal opposition (memorize 4):

When topic is about... "Even though some people might argue that..."
Any change/new idea "...it's too risky"
Costs money "...it's too expensive"
Rules/restrictions "...it limits personal freedom"
Anything else "...it won't make a real difference"

Step 2 — Your stance is always:

"I still think that the benefits clearly outweigh the drawbacks."

Step 3 — "In fact, studies have shown that..."

Just finish the sentence with something obvious about the topic:

Topic "In fact, studies have shown that..."
Fast food ads "...reducing ads leads to healthier eating habits"
Work from home "...remote workers are actually more productive"
School uniforms "...uniforms reduce bullying in schools"
Banning plastic "...countries that banned them saw less pollution"
Exercise in schools "...physical activity improves students' focus"
Social media for kids "...too much screen time affects mental health"
Four-day work week "...employees are more productive and motivated if they have a work-life balance"

Moreover, even though some people might argue that it won't make a real difference, I still think that the benefits clearly outweigh the drawbacks. In fact, studies have shown that employees are more productive and motivated when they have a healthy work-life balance.

Consequently, for these reasons, I am convinced that this is the right path forward."

Delivery Tips — Sound Assertive, Not Robotic

Task 7 needs confident energy, not warm energy

Pause with Purpose

Bad pause Good pause
"um... first and foremost..." "First and foremost... (pause) ...since..."
"uh... consequently..." "Consequently... (pause) ...for these reasons..."

Emphasize Key Words

Line How to say it
"I firmly believe" Sound confident, strong
"First and foremost" Sound serious, deliberate
"even though some people might argue" Sound fair, then pivot to your point
"I still think" Sound certain, unwavering
"I am convinced" Sound definitive, wrap it up

Speak in Chunks

Good: "First and foremost, / since employees / spend most of their day at work, / it will improve / their overall well-being."

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Mistake Fix
Being warm/soft like Task 1 Be assertive — "I firmly believe," not "I think maybe"
Reason 1 doesn't match the topic Ask: "Why is this a problem?" or "Why is this good?"
Finishing 20s early Add more detail to your "In fact" sentence
Saying "I think" too much Use "I firmly believe," "I am convinced," "I still think"
Not rephrasing the question Swap at least one word (students → learners, ban → restrict)
