Test Structure

The Writing test has 2 tasks and takes 53-60 minutes.

Task 1: Writing an Email (27 minutes)

You'll write an email based on a given situation.

Types of Emails

  • Formal: To a manager, company, official
  • Semi-formal: To a colleague, acquaintance
  • Informal: To a friend, family member

What's Assessed

  • Responding to all parts of the prompt
  • Appropriate tone for the audience
  • Clear organization
  • Vocabulary and grammar
  • Word count: ~150-200 words

Task 2: Responding to Survey Questions (26 minutes)

You'll respond to a survey with your opinion on a topic.

Format

  • Choose ONE option from given choices
  • Explain your choice
  • Support with reasons and examples

What's Assessed

  • Clear opinion statement
  • Logical supporting arguments
  • Specific examples
  • Coherent organization
  • Word count: ~150-200 words

Scoring Criteria

Level Description
10-12 Sophisticated vocabulary, complex sentences, minor errors
7-9 Good range of vocabulary, clear ideas, some errors
4-6 Basic vocabulary, simple sentences, noticeable errors
M-3 Limited vocabulary, unclear ideas, many errors
